Read this post and observe what happens next.

I've heard many people complain that one of the things they dislike about city life is that you can't see that stars at night. Most of the time you may think you see one, and then you realize it's just a plane flying over head. Cue the disappointment. Well, frown no more, because there is a way to look at the planets and stars for free in the city of Boston!

Boston University's Astronomy Dept. has a public observatory night on Wednesday nights from 8:30-9:30 PM during the summer, and varying hours throughout the year. To learn more about the hours and location, check out this link: http://www.bu.edu/astronomy/events/public-open-night-at-the-observatory/. They do not allow visitors when it is overcast though, because you cannot see the stars. If you follow them on Twitter @buobservatory, you will be updated on whether or not the free night is happening.

I went last week with some friends to check it out, and we were surprised when we were guided to the rooftop of the building. There were three telescopes, and they had spectators form lines to observe the different planets and stars they had under the telescopes. It was definitely worth the trip and was a great time.

And even if you don't really like star gazing, there's a pretty good view from the roof!
