Not my clothes that's for sure. If your hip and in the know, or just obnoxious like me, you know that what's gucci also means what's good. In this sense, I'm using it to show you some great, cheap things to do in Boston as a starter list for the blog. So here ya go.
Food:
The Yard House- Happy Hour, 1/2 Price Apps, Monday- Friday 3-6pm, Sunday-Thursday 10 pm-close.
Uno's- Mini desserts, less than $3.
Georgetown Cupcakes- Secret Flavor of the Day free for the first 100 people, follow them on Twitter to find out the flavor.
Trader Joe's- Cheaper than Shaw's, and a lot of great, original products.
Joe's American Bar and Grill- Locations on Newbury Street and the waterfront, burgers at very affordable prices around $10-15.
Crispy Crepes- Affordable and delicious. Need I say more?
Clothes shopping:
The basics: Forever 21, H&M, Marshall's, TJ Maxx, and Nordstrom Rack.
Jewelry- So Good has a lot of rally affordable things, especially if you go in when every thing is 25-50% off.
Urban Outfitters- Basement saleroom at their location in Harvard Square.
Sporting events:
Red Sox- Find cheap tickets on Stubhub.com. The closer to the game you buy tickets, the cheaper they will be. While the cheapest tickets aren't always the best seats, in reality there's really not a bad seat in the house. Tips for apparel: Go down the street to Marshalls's to pick something up instead of at the actual Red Sox store, prices are significantly lower, quality just as good.
Surrounding area colleges such as Harvard, BC, BU, and others have affordable tickets to their sporting events. Check out their athletic sites for more info.
Bruins, Celtics, and more: StubHub has affordable tickets to all these games. Check frequently to get the best price.
Things to do:
This list could go on and on and on so for now I'm going to focus mainly on the summer stuff and try to keep it short, maybe add more as I see them.
Movies- The Hatch Shell has summer movies every Friday night. MIT also has movies every Friday and Saturday. The Boston Harbor Hotel also has free movies on Friday night. Check out all their websites for more info.
Concerts- The Hatch Shell has a summer concert series, comprised of mainly orchestras.
Freedom Trail- Follow the red line (the one on the ground not the T) and spend the day tracing the history of Boston. It's free to walk along and see everything.
Faneuil Hall- Do some shopping, sample the free food, and take in some history as you stroll through.
The Charles/Esplanade: This stretch of over three miles ifs perfect for walking, biking, and running along while taking in the awesome views of Boston and Cambridge.
Kayaking- There are many affordable kayaking deals for Boston. I like the Charles River Canoe and Kayak, a two person kayak for an hour will cost you about $10 each.
Hubway- This system is great if you just want to rent a bike for a day. Prices vary and can be found at the kiosks scattered around the city.
Swan boats- $3 for adults and $1.50 for kids
Earning an extra buck:
Sign up for research studies- Schools like MIT and Harvard often have paid studies you can participate in to make anywhere from $10- upwards of $300 for each study. Just search the internet for 'research participant at ____, ' check Craigslist under volunteers, or go to http://www.hbs.edu/cler/.
Dog walk or pet sit- There are many opportunities for this in Boston, but always check in with your neighbors first and see if they could use help.
Babysitting and nannying- Parents pay big bucks for sitters in the city. Check out websites like Care.com for opportunities.
More things to come to list, let me know if you have any suggestions!
