It's that time of year again. Time to celebrate our great country that we call America. This holiday is meant to celebrate freedom, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In reality, it is a day dedicated to BBQs, booze, fireworks, and wearing as much red, white, and blue as humanly possible.
If you live in Boston, you know the 4th is a big deal here. The city is full of history from our founding fathers and is also known as the drunkest city in America. Therefore it comes at no surprise that for the 4th of July, Boston goes all out.
It kicks off with Harborfest, which started yesterday. There are a lot of activities, especially for the young ones, that can all be found here: http://www.bostonharborfest.com/mainevents.html.
Obviously the highlight of Independence Day is the fireworks. How fireworks embody the freedom we have in America I'm not entirely sure, but they are always great to look at. The Boston Pops start their show at the Hatch Shell at 7:30 PM, then the fireworks follow at 9:30 PM over the Charles. This year the rules have gotten a little more strict, so make sure to get there early and follow guidelines from the police which can be found here: http://www.july4th.org/Event_Info/Event_Grounds/.
Best of all, everything is free!
Whether you chose to stay in the city or head out, have a happy and safe 4th of July!
